Good morning,
If you’re reading this blog post and going through our posts then you will realize that we haven’t had an update in awhile. That’s because we have been working on a new play called “Black Girls (Can) Fly!” we premiered this play over the summer in August with MPAACT Theater Company during their Summer Jams series. We are now presenting the play in conjunction with the FTCO at the University of Chicago Charter School/NKO Campus.
Black Girls (Can) Fly! is a play about a ten-year old girl from Chicago named Bessie Mae. Drive-by shootings, school closings, and Black Lives Matter protests has taken a toll on young Bessie Mae. Her fear, of staying alive, has forced her to stay in-doors. She does not understand why anyone would want to leave their neighborhood. When an opportunity to take a trip with her parents presents itself, Bessie Mae has to decide if she is going to allow her fear to enable or empower her to fly! See what happens to Bessie Mae in Black Girls (Can) Fly!
